The 31-year old Russian player is gaining enough points from her straight set win in the opening round of Internazionali BNL d’Italia against the 58th-ranked Christina McHale, 6-4, 6-2, placing her in Rank 211 now in the World Tennis Association (WTA).
Sharapova handed Mchale’s fourth recorded loss to her as they played twice in Rome and twice at the Mutua Madrid Open in Madrid.
With the points earned in her recent wins, she was able to secure a direct entry to the qualifying round of Wimbledon in June. But she is still not thinking about that as of now as she is set to face the No.16 seed Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in the second round today as the Italian Open tournament continues.
Will Sharapova continue to advance to the next round?
