The Golden State Warriors pulled a great comeback on the second half to stun the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, 113-111.

Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant joined forces to lead the Warriors straight to victory who scored 40 points and 34 points apiece.

The Warriors tallied a 1-0 edge in the best-of-seven series. The winner of the Western Conference will play against either the defending Champion Cleveland, Boston or Washington in the NBA Finals.

score-card

Warriors snatch the lead

From Manu Ginobili’s steal, LaMarcus Aldridge pursued a driving dunk to close the first quarter with a 14 point lead, 30-16.

The Spurs’ leading scorers, Kawhi Leonard recorded 18 of his 26 points in the first half and Aldridge contributed 17 of his 28 in the first two quarters as the Spurs held a 62-42 half-time lead.

The Warriors tried to boost-up their morale but the Spurs showed consistency as Danny Green threw a 26-foot 3-pointer, leaving the Warriors with a 20 points deficit to end the second quarter.

Leonard left on the third quarter limping to the locker room due to a sprained left ankle.

Curry managed to score 19 points in the third quarter to trigger a comeback, firing 5 3-pointers, but the Warriors still lag behind, 90-81 entering the last quarter.

Finally, the Warriors took the lead as Durant unleashed a 2-point shot with 4:09 minutes left on the game, 100-101. The lead continued as the time expired for the last quarter, 113-111.

Leonard’s injury: Advantage on Warriors

Jonathon Simmons entered the game for Leonard in the first 7:52 of the third quarter. Notably, Leonard also missed Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Houston Rockets because of a sprained left ankle.

Leonard’s absence in the second half flashed a 18-0 run, a slow but sure comeback for the Warriors as Curry and the team found their rhythm to outsmart the Spurs.

What do you think happened if Leonard doesn’t have injury and played the whole game? Will the result be the same?
